Wheat is one of THE 7 SPECIES and an agricultural staple of The Land of Israel. It is referred to in the Torah, The Jewish Bible, and has a symbolic and practical role in Jewish tradition and history. It was one of the acceptable offerings permitted in the ancient Temple of Jerusalem. A symbol of prosperity, wheat provided sustenance in ancient times. The flowing natural beauty of growing wheat is often depicted in Jewish art and artifacts.
The harvesting of wheat is called KATZIR, which is one of the names of the Jewish holiday Shavuot. Shavuot marks the end of the WHEAT harvest in Israel, and on that day, the Book of Ruth, is read. The book of Ruth, Megilat Ruth, describes the BARLEY and WHEAT harvest in the ancient Land of Israel.
Due to its dependability and abundance, wheat is frequently used in diverse cuisine and is noted for its versatile culinary appeal.
