We chose these desserts for three reasons:
- Suitable for Passover – each dessert is Kosher for Passover.
- Health – Each dessert is wholesome and nutritious.
- Taste – Each dessert is yummy! Not merely a “Passover compromise” or a “good-enough-healthy substitute”. In fact, you can enjoy these desserts all year round.
What makes a dessert kosher for Passover?
We’re glad you asked. First, a refresher- Passover (Pesach) is a Jewish holiday celebrated in springtime. According to Jewish law, the consumption of five types of grains (wheat, barley, oat, rye and spelt) is restricted throughout the holiday. (You can read here more about what is Kosher for Passover.)
So limited grain options. got it. Anything else?
Basically, ensuring that all products used are free from Chametz, i.e., leavening or rising restricted grain.
How do you do that?
First, by using only Kosher for Passover ingredients. Second, by preparing the dessert in a Kosher for Passover Kitchen, meaning all equipment – including kitchenware, stove and surfaces – is free from chametz. If you’re in doubt about either of these two requirements, it is best to consult an authoritative source. Customs vary. A prevalent example is Kitniyot – a category in Jewish law that refers to the consumption of certain grains, seeds and legumes during Passover.
What makes a dessert healthy?
In essence, its wholesome ingredients. You can click here to find out what it means all year round. Particularly at Passover, we focus on natural ingredients and exclude refined carbs and sugars. As always, we love to incorporate nutritionally dense ingredients such as, eggs, fruit, nut butters and nut flours. We use natural sweeteners and/or fruit. Please note that some of the desserts below are labeled with “No Added Sugar“.
What makes a dessert yummy?
Well, this one is obvious. It’s superb taste. Desserts are meant to be enjoyed and savored, and with a bit of creativity, they can still be healthy and Kosher for Passover as well. Simply put, our Passover dessert collection only includes treats that we would gladly eat all year round. We invite you to try them.
