How To Prepare And Cook Dried Chickpeas? Follow the easy instructions to create smooth and tender chickpeas.
Equipment
- 1 Pressure Cooker (or large regular pot)
Ingredients
- 2 cups Chickpeas (dried legume)
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- Water
Instructions
Soaking The Chickpeas
- Place the chickpeas in a large pot and cover with 5 cups of water (allowing room for expansion). Soak 8-12 hours without a cover.
Peeling The Chickpeas
- Drain the chickpeas. Place in a pot and cover with fresh water. Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda and bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 5 minutes. Drain and cover the chickpeas with fresh cold water.
- Gently rub the chickpeas to seperate the peels.
- Remove the peels and drain the chickpeas.
Cooking The Chickpeas
- Place the chickpeas in a pressure cooker and cover with 4 cups of fresh water.
- Bring to a boil. Activate the pressure cooker according to manual instructions. Simmer for 20 minutes.
- If you prefer to use a regular pot: bring the chickpeas to a boil, lower the flame, and simmer for 45 minutes – 1 hour or until the chickpeas are tender.
Notes
Cooking time may vary. The chickpeas should be tender.
