Wholegrain Sesame Honey Bars
Equipment
- Nonstick Frying Pan
- Coffee-Spice Grinder
- Electric Mixer
- Nonstick Baking Pan (9 by 10 inches – 23 by 25 centimeters)
Ingredients
- 3 cups Sesame Seeds (to be toasted)
- 1/2 cup Ground Sesame Seeds (measure ¼ cup of sesame seeds and grind them in a coffee-spice grinder – it should yield ½ cup of ground sesame)
- 1/2 cup Raw Tahini
- 2 Eggs
- 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 cup Water
- 3/4 cup Honey
- 1 cup Wholegrain Spelt Flour (sifted)
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
- Toast 3 cups of sesame seeds in a nonstick frying pan until golden brown. Keep watch and stir often to prevent burning. Set aside and let cool.
- Grind 1/4 cup of sesame seeds in a coffee-spice grinder. It should yield ½ cup of ground sesame. Set aside.
- Whisk the tahini and eggs until fluffy.
- Add the vanilla, water and honey. Whisk until well blended.
- Gradually add the sifted spelt flour, ground sesame and baking soda. Blend well.
- Add the 3 cups of pre-prepared toasted sesame seeds and blend well.
- Pour into the baking pan. Spread the batter evenly.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden. Let cool.
- Cut lines lengthwise and widthwise to create squares.
- Carefully remove from pan.
