What are the 7 Species?
The Torah, the Jewish Bible, mentions seven worthy species of plants known as Shiv’at HaMinim: WHEAT, BARLEY, GRAPES, FIGS, POMEGRANTES, OLIVES and DATES (Deuteronomy 8:8). Notable for both their supreme taste and aesthetic appearance, these 7 species play a significant role in Jewish tradition and in the practice of Jewish Holidays. (Learn more about the link between the 7 Species and Jewish Holidays.) The seven species are a prevalent theme in Jewish art and Judaica artifacts. Their unique shape and meaning has captured the eye and hearts of artists for centuries.
